High School FAQ

We are excited to welcome our first ninth-grade class for the 2027–2028 school year! We will add one grade each subsequent year, culminating in our first graduating class in the spring of 2031. We are in the process of amending our existing Maryland State Department of Education certificate of approval.

Enrollment for our inaugural ninth-grade class is scheduled to open December 1, 2026, and will continue until the class is filled. We encourage interested families to schedule a tour, learn more about our program, and consider becoming part of this exciting new chapter in St. Paul’s history.

At St. Paul’s, we believe families shouldn't have to choose between strong academics, a Christ-centered education, a personal school community, and an affordable tuition.

Our high school is being designed to combine rigorous college-preparatory academics with hands-on STEAM education, meaningful extracurricular opportunities, and an environment where students are known as individuals.

We are building a school that is large enough to offer exciting opportunities but small enough that students won't get lost in the crowd.

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. At St. Paul’s, STEAM is more than a collection of subjects. It is an approach to learning that encourages students to think critically, solve problems creatively, and apply their knowledge to real-world challenges.

Our planned high school offerings include opportunities in robotics, computer technology, engineering-related projects, and other hands-on electives. Students will have opportunities to move beyond simply learning how things work to actually designing, building, and creating.

Absolutely! Our high school curriculum is being developed with college preparation as a central priority.

Students will study the core academic disciplines of English, mathematics, science, social studies, and religion, with opportunities for advanced coursework. Our planned program also includes Advanced Placement options, online courses through Sevenstar Academy, and dual-enrollment opportunities through Anne Arundel Community College.

Our goal is to help students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue college, technical training, careers, and the vocations to which God calls them.

Yes! St. Paul’s Lutheran School holds a Certificate of Approval from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and we are in the process of extending that approval to include our new high school grades.

MSDE approval means that our school is held to established state standards for curriculum, instruction, teacher qualifications, and school operations. For families planning for college, this provides an additional level of confidence that their child's education is grounded in a recognized, academically accountable program.

Our high school curriculum is being designed with college and career readiness in mind, including rigorous graduation requirements, Advanced Placement (AP) opportunities, dual-enrollment opportunities through Anne Arundel Community College, and a strong emphasis on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

While graduates of church-exempt schools can certainly attend college, we believe that combining MSDE approval, a challenging college-preparatory curriculum, and a Christ-centered learning environment offers families an especially strong foundation for their student's future.

At St. Paul’s, our goal is to prepare students not only for college and careers, but also for lives of faith, service, and purpose.

Our planned academic program includes opportunities for eligible students to take college-level courses through Anne Arundel Community College, potentially earning college credit while still in high school.

We also anticipate offering Advanced Placement coursework and additional academic options through Sevenstar Academy. Specific courses and eligibility requirements will depend on scheduling, prerequisites, and program availability.

Not at all! St. Paul’s Lutheran School welcomes students of all faith backgrounds, including those who do not identify with any religious tradition. We do not discriminate on the basis of religion in our admissions process.

However, St. Paul’s is unapologetically a Christian school rooted in the Lutheran tradition. All high school students are required to take Religion courses, which teach the Christian faith from a Lutheran perspective. Students also participate in the Christian educational life of the school.

We believe students from a variety of backgrounds can benefit from a rigorous academic education grounded in Christian values, and we welcome the opportunity to share our faith while treating every student and family with dignity and respect.

St. Paul’s high school will follow a block schedule, building on a model introduced in our middle school during the 2026–2027 school year.

Rather than moving between seven or eight short classes each day, students will generally have four extended instructional blocks. This provides teachers with more time for in-depth instruction, hands-on projects, experiments, collaborative learning, and meaningful classroom discussions.

Each instructional block is approximately 90 minutes, with a daily lunch and recess period. Modern research shows that even high school students can benefit from outdoor recess time. Students also participate in weekly chapel services.

We believe this approach helps students engage more deeply with their coursework while reducing the constant transitions associated with traditional class schedules.

At St. Paul’s, faith isn't confined to religion class or chapel. It shapes how we understand the world, how we treat one another, and how we use the gifts God has given us.

Students will study Scripture and Christian theology, explore questions of faith and reason, and consider how their beliefs inform their responsibilities to their families, communities, and neighbors.

Absolutely! We believe that a well-rounded education includes opportunities for students to develop their talents, build friendships, practice teamwork, and grow as leaders both inside and outside the classroom.

Athletics will be part of the St. Paul’s high school experience, with plans to offer sports such as volleyball, soccer, cross country, and basketball. Additional sports and extracurricular activities will be developed as our high school grows, based on student interest, available facilities, and resources.

However, our primary focus is on providing an outstanding Christ-centered, STEAM-focused academic education. Rather than investing heavily in costly, large-scale athletic programs, we are intentionally directing our resources toward strong academics, innovative learning opportunities, and keeping Christian education affordable for families.

Our goal isn't to compete with the largest high schools in the size of our athletic program. It's to provide students with meaningful opportunities to participate, compete, develop their God-given abilities, and enjoy a well-rounded high school experience.

Our vision is to create a mid-sized Christian high school that combines the personal attention of a smaller school with the opportunities of a larger one.

We want students to be known by their teachers, encouraged to develop their individual gifts, and able to participate meaningfully in school life. We believe that kind of community helps students grow academically, socially, and spiritually.

Of course! We welcome applications from students attending other Christian schools, public schools, and homeschool programs.

One of our goals is to make a high-quality Christian high school education accessible to more families.

Annual tuition for the 2027–2028 school year will be $13,900, positioning St. Paul's competitively among other private and Christian high schools in the area.
